Saying Yes: Jenny’s Cambridge Half Marathon Journey

Meet Jenny, Head of Finance & People at Jimmy’s.

She’s the person who keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes — supporting our teams, balancing the books, and somehow juggling family life, volunteering with the RSPCA, eight chickens, an elderly dog, and a garden too.

On Sunday 8th March 2026 Jenny will be taking on the Cambridge Half Marathon, running alongside her wonderful husband Craig, who will be completing his third Cambridge Half Marathon for Jimmy’s.

Here’s why Jenny decided to say yes.

I’ve watched the Cambridge Half Marathon from the sidelines for years, scoffing at the idea of actually participating. “I’ve got more sense than that,” I told myself. With work, volunteering, family life, animals, and a house and garden to keep on top of, training for a half marathon felt firmly in the “better not” category.

Then, about a year ago, I mentioned to friends at Jimmy’s that I’d done a skydive back in 2013. Their jaws hit the floor. Someone like me? And it made me stop and think: when did my world get so small?

I used to do all sorts. I’ve ridden horses, climbed mountains, abseiled walls, gone on gorge and swamp walks, camped, orienteered… I even drove halfway across Europe in an Austin Allegro. When did I stop having adventures? When did I stop saying yes?

After a couple of days of insufferable self-reflection, I realised I’d been hiding behind “I’m too busy” as an excuse to stay comfortable. I wanted my world to feel bigger again. I needed to start saying yes.

And the very first thing I had the chance to say yes to was the Cambridge Half Marathon 2026. Naturally.

It hasn’t been easy. I’m not a natural runner. I’ve been out in all weathers, puffing along slowly, sometimes wishing I was at home and questioning my decision. But I’m going to do this. The Jimmy’s Joggers training runs have helped a lot — everyone’s so supportive, and there’s never any pressure to go faster or further than you’re comfortable with. It’s been great being part of a little community, seeing others’ progress and sharing my own in return.

Even so, it’s a big, scary thing that I never, ever thought I would do.

But I’m doing it anyway.

Because I said yes.
Because I promised myself I would.
Because my Nonnie always said, “I can do anything if I put my mind to it.”

And if I can do this, maybe there’s nothing I can’t say yes to.
(Except running. No more running.)
