Jimmy’s Cambridge Marks 30 Years with Charity Gala Dinner

Jimmy’s Cambridge Celebrates 30 Years with First-Ever Gala Dinner

Jimmy’s Cambridge marked a major milestone last Thursday as it hosted its first-ever Gala Dinner at the iconic University Arms hotel, celebrating 30 years of supporting people experiencing homelessness in Cambridge. The black-tie event brought together community members, volunteers, supporters, partners, and local businesses for an unforgettable evening dedicated to hope, connection, and positive change.

An Inspiring Evening Honouring Stories of Change

The night was hosted by Chris Mann of BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, who brought warmth and humour to the event. Guests heard powerful personal stories from people whose lives have been transformed by Jimmy’s services, highlighting the charity’s ongoing impact in the city.

Special guest Gail Porter shared her lived experience of mental ill health and homelessness, reinforcing the vital importance of Jimmy’s frontline work. Volunteer Alison offered heartfelt reflections on supporting residents, and CEO Natasha Davies delivered an inspiring speech celebrating three decades of life-changing support.

Dinner, Auction, and Community Support

Attendees enjoyed a gourmet three-course dinner followed by a lively silent auction and raffle. Prizes were generously donated by local businesses, including a standout seven-course taster menu for six at Ancient Shepherds in Fen Ditton.

Exceeding the £30,000 Fundraising Goal

Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, Jimmy’s surpassed its ambitious £30,000 fundraising target. These funds will directly support people sleeping rough in Cambridge, giving them access to safe accommodation, personalised support, and the resources they need to rebuild their lives.

A huge thank-you goes to the event sponsors — Sustainable Tech 4 Good, OpenArch, The Cambridge Building Society, and Cambridge Investment Partnership — and to Elle Roberts-Nissen from Elle-Events, whose meticulous planning ensured the evening ran flawlessly.

Jimmy’s also extends heartfelt gratitude to its dedicated volunteers, whose energy and kindness made the night a true success.

What’s Next for Jimmy’s?

Following the success of this inaugural Gala Dinner, interest is already building for a potential 2026 Gala. In the meantime, the team is preparing for its next major community event: the Christmas Carol Concert on Wednesday 3rd December at Great St Mary’s. Tickets are available now via the Jimmy’s website.

A special thank-you to Ian Olsson for capturing the evening through his exceptional photography.
