We’re proud to announce that Jimmy’s Cambridge now has three fully certified Mental Health First Aiders! This milestone follows the completion of a two-day Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training course — giving our team the skills to provide immediate, empathetic mental health support, just like a physical first aider would in a crisis.
We would like to thank the Rural Communities Mental Health Foundation (RCMHF), and particularly their co-founder Kate Scott hugely for this opportunity, and for sharing their resources with us. We trained with Wise Mind Training & Consultancy, and special thanks go to Susie and Rachael for delivering the course with professionalism and care.
💬 What Is Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training?
Mental Health First Aid training equips people with the skills to:
-
Recognise early signs of mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, or psychosis
-
Provide initial support and guidance
-
Encourage professional help
-
Reduce mental health stigma
It’s about early intervention, empathy, and making a difference when it matters most.
🧠 Our MHFA Training Experience
We completed this accredited MHFA course through Wise Mind Training & Consultancy, with support from the Rural Communities Mental Health Foundation. Huge thanks to usie and Rachael from Wise Mind for delivering this training with compassion, insight, and professionalism.
During the course, we engaged in:
-
🗣️ Group discussions to share experiences and learn from one another
-
🎥 Educational videos that explained conditions like depression and anxiety clearly
-
🎭 Role play exercises to practice supporting someone in a mental health crisis
These hands-on, practical sessions gave us real-world tools to support our team and community.
📈 Why Mental Health First Aid Certification Matters
Here’s a striking comparison we learned:
-
1,633 people in the UK died in road traffic accidents in 2024
-
Over 7,000 people died by suicide in the same year
Mental health education saves lives. Mental Health First Aid is more than helpful — it’s essential.
🧩 Why Mental Health First Aid Certification Matters:
Certified Mental Health First Aiders learn to:
-
Spot signs of poor mental health early
-
Support individuals in crisis
-
Encourage access to professional mental health services
-
Practice self-care and protect their own wellbeing
-
Promote inclusive, supportive workplaces
💚 Final Takeaway: You Can’t Pour from an Empty Cup
One of our biggest lessons: caring for others starts with caring for yourself. Self-care is essential, especially for those in support roles.
✅ We Recommend Mental Health First Aid Training
If you’re thinking about Mental Health First Aid certification, we highly recommend it. It’s a life-changing skill — for yourself, your colleagues, and your community.
