Jimmy’s announces their plans for the future.

During our Corporate Networking Morning on 1st July 2026, we announced our bold vision and plans for the future.

Why?

Shelter recently released their research outlining that at the current rate of construction, it would take 119 years to clear England’s social housing waiting lists. With over 1.3 million households on the backlog, but only 12,198 new social homes are delivered annually – the need for an organisation like Jimmy’s is greater than ever.

Our tenancy at East Road comes to an end, so we need to find a new home for our 25 bed Assessment Centre, charitable head quarters, support and meeting space. If we do not find a new home, we as an organisation built to end homelessness could become homeless ourselves.

However, we are not looking to replace what we have. Instead, we have an ambitious vision to set the gold standard in accommodation and support, with our residents and the community at the centre of it all.

What do we want to do?

We want to create the very best bright spaces, a place to rest and recuperate, a place to keep clean, a place to cook and experiment with different cuisines, we do have some star bakers already, and a place to call home, to relax with friends and enjoy the view of our beautiful city.

We want to provide genuine community spaces, where when you walk in you could be there for any reason. You could be meeting a friend, visiting the GP, running a book group, learning a new skill, getting a hair cut, meeting someone to talk about your ideas for a start up, or you could be coming home, because Jimmy’s is your home.

We’ve had a wonderful team of architects drawing up concepts for what our new home could look like. Our vision is bold, it’s ambitious and we will need the backing of the whole city to make it happen.

Will you back us?

In addition to our announcement, we released a short film that was produced in collaboration with students from ARU, that takes you on a journey through Cambridge. Narrated by an individual we’ve supported, it’s the story of the work we do and the future we want to build for people experiencing homelessness.
