This month, Jimmy’s were delighted to receive the keys to a brand new rental property thanks to the Tiley / Pocock family. John Pocock was one of the founders of Jimmy’s who, for over 40 years ran local estate agency Pocock and Shaw A simple effective estate agency — Pocock + Shaw.
Jimmy’s have supported this couple through the full journey, from rough sleeping to a front door of their own. However, following the termination of one of our existing leases by a landlord, the couple faced an uncertain future.
Thankfully, Nick Tiley and his family were there. Their generosity came at a critical moment, securing the couple’s tenancy and giving Jimmy’s the time and space to carry on supporting them and avoiding a potential move to precarious temporary accommodation.
Natasha Davies, CEO of Jimmy’s Cambridge, said:
“The support of the Tiley/Pocock family demonstrates the gold standard in ethical practice in the private rented sector. We share a wonderful long-term relationship with Nick and his family. Together, we can offer stable, long-term accommodation and wraparound support to the most vulnerable people in Cambridge. In a highly competitive and risk-averse private rental market, it takes truly special people to step up for their community in this way.”
Nick Tiley said:
“Supporting Jimmy’s in their mission that no one should have to sleep rough in Cambridge is incredibly important to us as a family, continuing John Pocock’s legacy. We live in the local area and we care that local people who cannot afford housing are looked after properly. We were selling one of our properties, so it was empty, and when we heard that a couple was being made homeless we took it off the market so that they could live in it. We are proud to stand with Jimmy’s.”
Nick and his family’s commitment to showing up for Jimmy’s residents – so directly and so generously – is a powerful reminder that the values Jimmy’s was built on are still very much alive. For that, we are deeply grateful.
