We’re Now StreetVet Accredited – What That Means for Jimmy’s and Our Residents
At Jimmy’s, we’ve always believed that everyone deserves a safe place to stay – and that includes our residents’ four-legged companions. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to announce that both of our sites – East Road and 451 Newmarket Road – are now officially StreetVet Accredited.
This accreditation is more than a badge of honour. It’s a reflection of our ongoing commitment to being a truly pet-inclusive service where people experiencing homelessness don’t have to choose between shelter and staying with their pets.
Why This Matters
Many of the people we support share an unbreakable bond with their pets – often their only source of unconditional love, support, and security. Being able to offer accommodation that recognises and protects this bond is essential, and StreetVet’s support has been invaluable in helping us do this safely and sustainably.
Becoming accredited involved meeting a wide range of standards, including:
-
Clearly signposted pet-friendly and non-pet areas
-
Ensuring pets are not in communal food preparation spaces
-
Weekly hygiene checks of rooms with pets
-
Providing essential pet supplies like food, leads, and poo bags
-
Making sure pets are up to date with flea, worming, and vaccinations
-
Having trained staff on hand – all of whom completed StreetVet’s eLearning
-
Assigning a “pet advocate” – thank you to Debs Smith, who represents both sites!
We’re especially excited about future plans at our 451 site, where we’re updating the garden to include a sensory dog garden and creating a stash of dog enrichment ideas to help owners keep their pets stimulated and happy.
We also appreciate the generous support from StreetVet’s partners, including welcome packs and supplies that many of our residents have already benefited from. Whether it’s a new collar, a lead, or a cosy blanket, these gifts make a real difference.
A Team Effort
We want to thank our incredible staff, volunteers, residents, and the StreetVet team for helping us reach this milestone. Together, we’re showing that it’s possible to provide compassionate, safe, and inclusive support to people – and their beloved pets – when they need it most.
We’re proud of what this accreditation stands for: respect, dignity, and understanding. And we’re committed to continuing this work with heart, humility, and a dog lead always ready at the door.
Help Us Do More
If you’d like to support our work – whether through a donation, volunteering, or providing supplies for our pet-friendly spaces – we’d love to hear from you.
Your generosity helps us offer more than just shelter. It helps us provide stability, dignity, and care for some of the most vulnerable members of our community – and their best friends.
