Harvest is a time of year where we at Jimmy’s receive significant amounts of food donations, kindly donated from individuals, community groups and local businesses across Cambridge and beyond, to help us stock our shelves through winter. When we receive food stock donations – every tin, packet and jar has to be checked, sorted, shelved and organised across our pantry rooms.
Many hands make light work!
Every day for a week, teams from Woodfines Solicitors, Cambridge Building Society, Reed in Partnership and Northmores arrived at Jimmy’s ready to get stuck in. They rolled up their sleeves, unpacked boxes and crates, checked dates, sorted items and stacked our shelves.

Their time made a real difference. Every hour spent sorting means donations reach our residents across our services sooner, and our own team gets more time to directly support the people who walk through our doors.
Not only that – our partners actually enjoyed the experience too. It was an opportunity to connect as a team, while giving back to the local community. One individual even said that she found the whole experience of sorting and organising very therapeutic!
Our thanks go to all of our Harvest Partners, for showing up, getting stuck in and bringing so much energy with them.
We were also grateful to have another team of volunteers from Riverlane in this week to help with the remainder of the sorting.

Want to get involved?
If your company would like to take part in next year’s Harvest, or support us in another way, please contact amaya@jimmyscambridge.org.uk. We have lots of opportunities coming up during our Winter Appeal to get involved and get behind the vital work we do to support individuals experiencing homelessness in Cambridge on their journeys from Street Floor to Front Door. 💜
