1. The Night Shelter is a place for people to sleep. All guests are asked to respect this. If a guest is unable to sleep, they must be careful not to disturb others.
2. Alcoholic drink, must not be consumed on the premises. Guests are asked to hand over bottles and cans for safe keeping on arrival.
3. Non-prescribed drugs or solvents must not be brought onto the premises, neither should they be consumed, injected, smoked, shared, traded or talked about. (Prescribeable drugs will only be allowed if the owner of the drug has been prescribed the drug)
4. Smoking tobacco is allowed in the courtyard only.
5. Violent and threatening behaviour, both physical and verbal are unacceptable. Guests are asked to hand over any weapon they may have with them.
6. Dogs are permitted on the premises as long as they are kept on a lead and under the control of their owners and kept quiet at all times. Owners who cannot keep their dog under control and quiet will be asked to leave Jimmy’s, with their dog.
7. Any belongings left after a guest has not stayed at Jimmy’s for one week will be disposed of.
8. Guests who do not respect these rules may, at the discretion of the Project Worker, be asked to leave Jimmy’s for the remainder of the night.
9. It is the policy of the Night Shelter to press charges where injury to staff and volunteers or damage to property is involved.
Various other rules will be explained to you on registration at the night shelter.
BANS
The aim of the night shelter is to allow an eligible person to stay at Jimmy’s if at all possible. Exclusion from the shelter is one of the last resorts.
Bans are usually enforced for 3 reasons:
A guest’s behaviour is unacceptable within Jimy’s and either there is a danger to the individual, other guests or property.
Actual violence towards another guest, volunteer or staff, or damage to night shelter property.
Breach of the Drug & Alcohol rules.
List of drug and alcohol bans:
1 month for smoking on the premises (other than in the courtyard)
1 month for drinking on the premises.
1 month for possession of any (clean or dirty) drug paraphernalia on the premises.
1 month for possession of any illegal substance on the premises.
1 month for using, or suspicion of using, any illegal substance on the premises.
Lifetime ban for any items associated with dealing drugs or sharing drugs on the premises.
Bans will be consecutive for each broken rule e.g. if a charged syringe is found, we ban 1 month for dirty paraphernalia and 1 month for the illegal drug, equalling a 2 month ban.
