Jimmys Cambridge Front

The generosity of our many supporters makes it possible for Jimmy’s to operate all year round, providing basic, but comfortable facilities for each of our guests.

We have been awarded £3 million funding to completely refurbish Jimmy’s: this funding is only for the building works and cannot be used for any other purpose. We will face enormous challenges to cover the inevitable additional expenses of this transformation and, when open we will have many more opportunities to meet the diverse needs of our guests.

It costs £40 to feed each person at Jimmy’s for one week; keeping the night shelter clean costs £42 a day; providing a pair of good, waterproof shoes for a guest costs £30; having the shelter kept warm in the winter costs £630 a month.

“Yes Jimmy’s does give us bed, food and somewhere to wash. But what it gives most of is care, warmth, help—and the odd boot up the backside when we deserve it!”

Alex, guest

The kind donations we receive each year come from so many people, including former guests and homeless people: they know that every penny we receive is used to benefit our guests. The support we receive makes a real difference to the lives of many: over 300 homeless people stay at Jimmy’s each year.

We do so value and appreciate all your support and ask that you continue to give generously to enable our guests to improve their chances of moving away from rough sleeping and finding stability in their lives.

How we use your donations

Whilst Jimmy’s does receive statutory funding, much of our work and services are only possible through the kindness and generosity of our supporters. All money we receive from donors is spent on services and support for our guests, but we do have to make a little stretch a long way. It costs:

£47.60 to provide a bed, evening meal and breakfast for one person each night.

almost £200 each month to run the laundry facilities

£150 a week to provide sports opportunities for guests

over £1,200 a month to provide an advocacy service to guests to help them with health, benefits and legal support

£750 a year to purchase socks and underwear for guests

£600 monthly to maintain our building’s high level of safety and security

£100 a week for emergencies and welfare, eg reading glasses, special shoes, work clothing for starting a new job
